Living the Beatitudes in Marriage: Blessed are those who Mourn

We invite couples to come together on Saturday, April 20, from 6:30—8:30p.m. for fellowship and to reflect on living the Beatitudes in marriage as presented by our guest speakers.

Our next Marriage Enrichment Series, entitled, “Living the Beatitudes in Marriage: Blessed are they who Mourn” is presented by Fr. Albert Scharbach and Abby Scharbach.

In the beatitudes of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus declared, “Blessed are they who Mourn, for they will be comforted” (Matthew 5:4). Mourning is one of the hardest things we may have endure and yet Jesus calls this a blessing in His sermon on the Mount. Mourning isn’t only about our sadness but rather it’s about acknowledging what God has first given us and seeing a sweetness amidst our sorrow.

Fr. Al and Abby Scharbach have been married for 25+ years and have nine children. In 2009, after spending ten years in the Anglican church in lay ministry and eventually as a priest, Fr. Scharbach brought his whole family into the Catholic church. In late 2013, Fr. Scharbach became a Catholic priest, canonically resident in the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter, a non-geographical diocese established by Pope Benedict XVI. Father and Abby currently serve at Mount Calvary parish in downtown Baltimore.

In 2020 Fr. Al and Abby Scharbach tragically lost their son Isaac Scharbach, in an accident at age 21. Although they continue to mourn Issac, they see God’s grace and strength provided to them through the Sacrament of Marriage. Join us as they share:

  • Their journey of healing and how the sacrament they received more than 25 years ago has prepared them.

  • Stories of Issac Scharbach and his remaining presence in their lives

  • Advice for married couples and how to confront struggle and grief in their relationship.

This event is for all dating, engaged and married couples. We hope you can join us at the 5:15p.m. Vigil Mass, after which dinner and childcare will be provided.

Space is limited.
