Eucharist

At the Last Supper, on the night he was betrayed, our Savior instituted the Eucharistic sacrifice of his Body and Blood. This he did in order to perpetuate the sacrifice of the cross throughout the ages until he should come again, and so to entrust to his beloved Spouse, the Church, a memorial of his death and resurrection: a sacrament of love, a sign of unity, a bond of charity, a Paschal banquet in which Christ is consumed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given to us.

First Eucharist for Children

  • • Information for First Eucharist is distributed to current 2nd grade St. John the Evangelist Parish families.

    • If your child is 3rd grade or older, contact the Office of Faith Formation at 410-647-4892.

  • • Families must be registered parishioners of St. John the Evangelist.

    • The child must have been enrolled for two or more years in a parish Faith Formation program or in Catholic School.

    • The Sacrament of Reconciliation must be celebrated prior to First Eucharist.

    • The child must enroll and complete the First Eucharist preparation program designated by the parish.

  • The Sacrament of First Eucharist is celebrated between Easter Sunday and Pentecost. Families will be offered an opportunity to sign up for a weekend Mass.

First Eucharist for Adults

For adults who have not received the Sacrament of the Eucharist but would be interested in doing so, please email us at OCIA@stjohnsp.org for more information. The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) prepares adults to join the Catholic Church who may not be baptized or were baptized in another denomination as well as prepares those baptized as Catholics but who have never received First Eucharist also known as First Communion.
