Living the Beatitudes in Marriage: Blessed are the Poor in Spirit

SOLD OUT! Thank you!

We invite couples to come together on Saturday, Feb. 10, from 6:30—8:30p.m. for fellowship and to reflect on living the Beatitudes in marriage as presented by our guest speakers.

Our first Marriage Enrichment Series event of 2024, entitled, “Living the Beatitudes in Marriage: Blessed are the Poor in Spirit,” is presented by Ali and Mary Ghaffari.

In the beatitudes of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus declared, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:3). Spiritual poverty isn’t about financial wealth and possessions; it’s recognizing that we have nothing of worth to offer God, and because of sin there is nothing we can do to receive the salvation only faith in God offers.

The Ghaffari’s are converts to Catholicism and have been St. John the Evangelist parishioners since 2019. They will share their 17-year marriage journey of being ‘poor in spirit.’ They’ve needed God’s grace to get through military deployments, stressful household moves, parenting their own three children, five foster children (and one adopted daughter), getting through two miscarriages, starting and growing a 5-day a week school for their children and others (while both working full time), and any of the many other hurdles life has thrown them - the Ghaffari’s have had plenty of need of God’s grace in order to make it through the days, weeks, and years of their marriage and to keep them energized for many more!

This event is for all dating, engaged and married couples. We hope you can join us at the 5:15p.m. Vigil Mass, after which dinner and childcare will be provided.

Space is limited.
