Turn to Your Faith for Strength!
Many saints have suffered with mental illness, such as St. Oscar Romero, St. Louis Martin, St. Jane Frances de Chantal, St. Joseph Benedict Labre and St. Alphonsa Muttathupadatha, which demonstrates that struggles with mental illness can coexist with profound faith and holiness. Come to the next St. Dymphna Prayer Group on Saturday, May 9, at 11a.m. in the Parish Office Great Room. Pray with us, watch a video about mental illness and if you choose, share your story over lunch, provided by the SJE MHA Ministry team. For information or to RSVP contact SJEMHAEvents@gmail.com.
Saints who had anxiety and show us it is possible to find strength and peace through faith:
St. John of the Cross had anxiety and mental struggles throughout his life.
Saint Therese of Lisieux found peace through her faith and trust in God.
Saint Benedict learned to overcome anxiety through prayer and reliance on God.
Saint Ignatius of Loyola addressed anxiety and scrupulosity through spiritual exercises and guidance.
Saint Dymphna, known as the patroness of those afflicted with nervous disorders and anxiety, is often invoked for help with mental health issues.
