Giving to St. John
Making IRA QCD Gifts to St. John
Thank you for generously thinking of St. John in your charitable giving!
A QCD is an IRA transfer made directly to a qualified charity, like St. John, which is not subject to income tax. Making a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to a charity has several benefits, including:
Supporting your parish: The gift directly supports the mission and work of the parish. You can direct your gift to specific parish needs, a beloved ministry, maintenance, or regular offertory.
Satisfying your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) requirement and lowering your taxable income.
Flexibility: You can make a single large gift or multiple smaller donations throughout the year from different IRAs.
No itemization required: The benefit of the tax-free distribution applies regardless of whether you itemize deductions.
Who can make a QCD and what are the requirements?
Age requirement: Must be at least 70½ years old at the time of the distribution.
IRA types: The distribution must be from an eligible IRA, such as a Traditional IRA, Rollover IRA, or Inherited IRA.
Direct transfer: The IRA custodian must send the money directly to the church. You cannot receive the funds yourself and then donate them.
Annual limit: There is an annual limit for QCDs, which is $108,000 per individual in 2024, indexed for inflation.
No taxable income: The amount transferred via a QCD is not considered part of your taxable income.
How do I make a QCD to St. John?
Check your eligibility.
Contact your IRA custodian to request a QCD. You will need the parish name, address, and our Tax ID number (EIN). You can also direct your gift to a specific parish need. Here is a sample form requesting a QCD, in both Word and PDF formats. The sample form contains all of the parish information you will need to direct a QCD to St. John.
Let us know to expect your gift, to ensure it is directed exactly as you specify.
For assistance, please email our Parish Controller, Trisha Corbi, at tcorbi@stjohnsp.org or call 410-647-4884.
