Corpus Christi Procession Hymns and Prayers

O Salutaris Hostia

O salutáris hóstia, Quae caeli pandis óstium:
Bella premunt hostília, Da robur, fer auxílium.

Uni trinóque Dómino, Sit sempitérna glória,
Qui vitam sine término, Nobis donet in pátria.

Hail, Our Savior’s Glorious Body

Verse 1
Hail our Savior’s glorious Body, Which his Virgin Mother bore;
Hail the Blood which, shed for sinners, Did a broken world restore;
Hail the sacrament most holy, Flesh and Blood of Christ adore!

Verse 2

To the Virgin, for our healing, His own Son the Father sends;
From the Father’s love proceeding, Sower, seed, and word descends;
Wondrous life of Word incarnate, With his greatest wonder ends.

Verse 3

On that paschal evening see him, With the chosen twelve recline,
To the old law still obedient, In its feast of love divine;
Love divine, the new law giving, Gives himself as Bread and Wine.

Verse 4

By his word the Word almighty, Makes of bread his flesh indeed;
Wine becomes his very lifeblood; Faith God’s living Word must heed!
Faith alone may safely guide us, Where the senses cannot lead!

Verse 5

Come adore this wondrous presence; Bow to Christ, the source of grace!
Here is kept the ancient promise, Of God’s earthly dwelling place!
Sight is blind before God’s glory. Faith alone may see his face!

Verse 6

Glory be to God the Father, Praise to his coequal Son,
Adoration to the Spirit, Bond of love, in Godhead one!
Blest be God by all creation, Joyously while ages run!

Humbly We Adore You

Verse 1

Humbly we adore you, Christ, Redeemer, King; You are Lord of heaven, you to whom we sing.
God, the Mighty, you have come, bearing gifts of grace; Son of Adam still you are, Savior to our race.

Verse 2

Jesus, Lord, we thank you for this wondrous bread; In our land now dwelling, by you we are fed.
We who share this mystery in you are made one; Ev’ry act we offer you in your name is done.

Verse 3

You who died to save us live now as our light; Though our eyes are blinded, yet our faith gives sight.
Savior, now be merciful, Lamb for sinners slain, We in grief confess our guilt; cleanse our souls of stain.

Verse 4

Christ, our God and brother, hear our humble plea; By this holy banquet grant us unity.
Make us one in loving you, one in mind and heart, Till in heaven we are yours, never more to part.

Verse 5

Hail, O Word Incarnate, born from Mary’s womb; Hail, O Strength immortal, risen from the tomb.
Share with us your victory, Savior ever blest: Live more fully in our hearts; be our constant guest.

Verse 6

Faith alone reveals here bread of Paradise; Faith alone may witness Jesus’ sacrifice.
Therefore, Lord, as once of old Thomas gained his sight, Now increase our feeble faith; shed your healing light.

Verse 7

Christ, at his last supper, breaking bread, decreed: “This, my Body, take and eat;” heav’nly food indeed!
Then he blessed the cup of wine; “Take and drink,” he said: “From this chalice of my Blood, soon for sinners shed.”

Verse 8

Now with glad thanksgiving, praise Christ glorified; He in us is present; we in him abide.
Members of his body, we in him are one; Hail this sacred union, heav’n on earth begun!

Prayers at the Second Altar (St. John Patio):
For Youth and Young Adults Discerning Their Vocations

Prayer to Discover My Vocation

Heavenly Father, I know that you love me. I trust that you have a special vocation for my life that will lead to my holiness, my happiness, and the salvation of souls.

Teach me how to talk with you and to listen to you so that in the quiet of prayer, you will open my mind and heart to know and follow your plan. Free me from the fear, doubt, or selfishness that keeps me from following you.

Give me the courage to say “yes” to whatever vocation I am called. Help me to find great joy in serving you, whether in marriage as a husband or wife, in religious life as a sister or brother, or at your altar as a priest.

My heart is yours. Let me desire what your desire. Please place holy people along my path to help me know, love, and serve you, so that I can effectively witness your love in the world.

Amen.

Prayer for our Seminarians

O Lord Jesus, great High Priest, we entrust our seminarians to You. Grant them the gift of discernment to know your will and your call. Enlighten the seminary faculty in their guidance, spiritual directors in molding them, and professors in instructing them. Lead our seminarians daily in your footsteps so that they may become priests who are models of purity, teachers of wisdom, and heroes of sacrifice. Fill them with humility and love for God and man. Transform them into apostles of your glory and sanctifiers of souls. Holy Mary, Queen of the Clergy, pray for them and obtain for us many more priests to serve in our parishes. Amen.

Prayer for Engaged Couples

We thank you, Lord, for the gift of married love. We place into your hands all couples preparing for the Sacrament of Matrimony. Form their hearts after your own, that they may learn to love generously and sacrificially. Give them the gifts of purity and chastity in their engagement. Open their hearts to welcome the gift of life in their marriages. Inspire them by faithful couples who bear witness to the gift of married love. Strengthen their hearts so that they will grow in faithfulness to one another, please you in all things, and so come to the happiness of celebrating the sacrament of their marriage. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Jesus, My Lord, My God, My All

Verse 1

Jesus, my Lord, my God, my All, How can I love thee as I ought?
And how revere this wondrous gift, So far surpassing hope or thought?

Chorus

Sweet Sacrament, we thee adore; Oh, make us love thee
More and more. Oh, make us love thee.
More and more.

Verse 2

Had I but Mary’s sinless heart, To love thee with, my dearest King,
Oh, with what bursts, Of fervent praise, Thy goodness, Jesus, would I sing.

Verse 3

Thy Body, Soul, and Godhead, all, O mystery of love divine.
I cannot compass all I have, For all thou hast and art are mine.

Holy God, We Praise Thy Name

Verse 1

Holy God, we praise thy name; Lord of all, we bow before thee!
All on earth thy scepter claim, All in heav’n above adore thee;
Infinite thy vast domain, Everlasting is thy reign.
Infinite thy vast domain, Everlasting is thy reign.

Verse 2

Hark! the loud celestial hymn, Angel choirs above are raising;
Cherubim and Seraphim, In unceasing chorus praising,
Fill the heav’ns with sweet accord: “Holy, holy, holy Lord!”
Fill the heav’ns with sweet accord: “Holy, holy, holy Lord!”

Verse 3

Lo, the apostolic train, Joins, the sacred name to hallow;
Prophets swell the loud refrain, And the white-robed martyrs follow;
And from morn to setting sun, Through the Church the song goes on.
And from morn to setting sun, Through the Church the song goes on.

Verse 4

Holy Father, Holy Son, Holy Spirit, Three we name thee,
While in essence only One, Undivided God we claim thee;
And adoring bend the knee, While we own the mystery.
And adoring bend the knee, While we own the mystery.
